Privacy Impact Assessments

Our district has long been accepting of innovative tools to support student learning. In addition to informed consent we develop and maintain Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) to guide appropriate use of online tools.

Current PIAs on file in our district include Learn60 Google Apps, MyEducationBC, ActivityRight, FollettShelf, BC Digital Classroom, MyBlueprint, Curio, Learn360, FreshGrade, Mathletics and Microsoft 365. Our PIA’s are available through request to the Secretary-Treasurer office via 250-262-6000 .

Staff wishing to use other tools not listed below can submit information about their desired tool/app/service to help begin a PIA in collaboration with Technology Services. Please see the linked form for more information.

PIA 101MyEducation BC is our Student Information System used in all public school districts and many independent schools. The personal information in MyEducation BC is collected under the authority of the School Act, and in accordance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA). Data is stored in Canada.
PIA 103Mathletics is a website that supports numeracy education.
PIA 104Digmore - BC Digital Classroom - is a collection of online tools that are accessible with schools and at home through generic passwords.
PIA 105Learn60 Microsoft 365 (aka Office 365) provides students in K-12 with a variety of applications including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Minecraft: Education Edition and more. Information is stored in Canada but can be processed and accessed globally. A yearly consent form for Learn60 (G-Suite+Microsoft 365)is sent home from schools.
PIA 106Curio is a resource that provides access to curated media from the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. This resource is no longer licensed within the BC Digital Classroom Bundle.
PIA 107Learn360 is an add on to the Digmore BC Digital Classroom resources that provides access to curated media from Infobase. The website is available from school and students and staff can create an account to access the service from home.
PIA 108MyBlueprint is an online application that supports career education, student portfolio, and graduation planning.
Zoom Communications is a video conferencing application with a negotiated Provincial agreement for use by BC School Districts. Zoom is used to connect with others at a distance through audio and video. Licensed accounts can be configured for storage of any recordings in Canada. Previous informed consent with families is required before recording can happen.
